Managed IT services pricing in BC

From $100 CAD per workstation and $200 CAD per server, per month, all-in. Here is what sits inside those numbers and what does not.

Most IT providers will not publish a number. We will, because the alternative is three meetings before you find out whether we are in your range.

The rate

What you are paying forRateWhat it covers
Per workstation from $100 CAD / month Monitoring, unlimited help desk, patching, disk encryption, endpoint security and Microsoft 365 support for each laptop or desktop.
Per server from $200 CAD / month All of the above plus OS patching, backups with tested restores and round-the-clock health monitoring, physical or cloud.

No setup fee, no per-ticket charge, no separate security tier, 30-day rolling with no lock-in. Rates step down as device counts grow, which is what "from" means above.

A twenty-workstation business with two servers pays $2,400 CAD a month. Ten workstations and one server is $1,200. You can work out your own number without talking to anybody, which is rather the point of publishing it.

Why per device and not per user

Per-user pricing is more common and it quietly penalises the wrong businesses. A clinic where six staff share two terminals gets billed like a consultancy where everyone has a laptop and a desktop, even though the second is roughly three times the work to keep patched, secured and backed up.

We monitor devices. We patch devices. We back up devices. So we count devices.

What is not in the monthly number

This is where quotes usually get slippery, so here it is in plain terms.

  • Vendor licences. Microsoft 365 and similar are billed at cost and stay in your name, not ours. You keep your tenant if you leave.
  • Hardware. Yours to buy. We will tell you what to buy and what to stop buying.
  • Large one-off projects. An office move, a server replacement, a tenant migration. Quoted and agreed in writing before any work starts.

Everything that recurs is inside the monthly rate. If it happens every month, you are not getting an invoice for it.

Comparing quotes? Ask every provider the same three questions: is security included or a tier on top, are Microsoft 365 licences inside the number, and what counts as a project rather than support. The answers explain most of the gap between a $75 quote and a $250 one.

How this compares

Published Canadian ranges sit at roughly $100 to $400 per user per month, or $50 to $125 per device. Our per-device rate lands in the upper half of the device range, and we would rather explain why than compete downward: an all-in rate with no security tier, no ticket caps and no per-incident billing costs more to quote and less to run than the alternative.

The cheapest managed IT contract in the Lower Mainland is always the one that excludes the most. What that exclusion costs you shows up later, usually on a day you are already having a bad time. Our breakdown of what an hour of downtime costs puts a figure on that side of the trade.

Common questions

How much should managed IT services cost?

In Canada the common range is roughly $100 to $400 per user per month, or about $50 to $125 per device per month. The spread is wide because providers include very different things. Our rate is $100 CAD per workstation and $200 CAD per server per month, and it is all-in: monitoring, unlimited help desk, patching, endpoint security, backups and Microsoft 365 administration, with no setup fee and no per-ticket charge.

How much does an MSP cost per month?

For a typical Lower Mainland business the monthly figure is driven by device count, not headcount. Twenty workstations and two servers comes to $2,400 CAD per month at our rates. Ten workstations and one server comes to $1,200. There is no minimum contract value and rates step down as device counts grow.

Why price per device instead of per user?

Because per-user pricing punishes the wrong businesses. A warehouse or a clinic where six staff share two terminals pays the same as a consultancy where everybody carries a laptop and a desktop, even though the second is roughly three times the work. Devices are what we monitor, patch, secure and back up, so devices are what we count.

What is not included in the monthly price?

Three things, named plainly because this is where most quotes get slippery. Microsoft 365 and other vendor licences are billed at cost and stay in your name. Hardware is yours to buy. Large one-off projects such as an office move, a server replacement or a tenant migration are quoted separately before any work starts. Everything else that recurs is inside the monthly number.

How much does it cost to have managed security services?

Nothing extra here. Endpoint protection, disk encryption, patching, firewall maintenance and security monitoring are inside the per-device rate rather than sold as a security tier on top. Splitting security out as an upsell creates an awkward incentive, and an unpatched endpoint is not a premium feature.

Is there a minimum contract?

No lock-in. Contracts run 30-day rolling, so continuing is a decision you make every month rather than one you made once. There are no setup fees and no exit fees.
